Holiday Long and Low - Recipe by Jill Slater

Materials:

Holiday Long and Low
  • 1 Loaf pan from the kitchen cupboard
  • 1 Brick floral foam
  • Two 12-inch tapers
  • 3 Stems stargazer lilies
  • 12 Stems red roses
  • 6 Stems yellow-berried hypericum
  • 8 Stems leather fern
  • 6 Stems sword fern
  • 2 Stems lemon leaf
  • One-hard 2-inch wide decorative ribbon
  • Floral clippers and knife
  • Floral preservative/food
Directions:
Step 1 - Soak the floral foam in water that has been treated with floral preservative/food for about 30 minutes.

Step 2 - Insert the soaked floral foam into the loaf pan and trim to fit. Insert 2 tapers, equally spaced, into the top of the foam.

Step 3 - Cutting the sword fern: Cut 2 stems of each of the following lengths- 9"-inches long, 7"-inches long and 5"-inches long. Now insert one of each length into the SHORT ENDS of the loaf pan.

Step 4 - Cutting the leather fern: Cut the stems to approximately 4"-inches in length and insert the stems into the floral foam to cover it almost completely.

Step 5 - Cut the lemon leaves at varying lengths, dispersing them throughout the arrangement.

Step 6 - Cut 2 stems of yellow-berried hypericum to approximately 8"-inches and scatter them evenly throughout the arrangement.

Step 7 - Use the individual blooms of the stargazer lilies and insert them evenly throughout the arrangement.

Step 8 - Cutting the roses: Cut 2 red roses to 7"- to 8"-inches in length and insert them at the short ends of the arrangement. Cut another 10 red roses to approximately 4"-inches in length and insert them throughout the arrangement.
